So Bear Cleaning Ltd has been established for a whole year!

Reflecting back, it’s been interesting to say the least. Pitted with peaks and troughs, laughter and tears it has pushed us both to our limit, which is saying something for a former Police Officer & Social Worker.

People say “don’t knock it till you’ve tried it” but working with your spouse is not often recommended. The number of people who have commented that they couldn’t work with their “other half” has been numerous. Despite both working in the public sector for many years, it had always been our ambition to work together. Watching Sarah Beeny on Property Ladder in the early 2000’s, inspired us and we’ve never lost the hope that we would one day have a joint venture and a legacy to leave our children.

Did I think it would be Wheelie Bin Cleaning? In a word, no.

Already established as a Plasterer and carving out an external cleaning company, when Ted suggested I “set up the Wheelie Bin Cleaning” I’m pretty sure I spat out my tea! But here we are and let me tell you, the glamour is real. Without breaching all sorts of marital codes, there’s not much I can say, apart from, it’s not been easy. But of course, anything worth having never is and that just drives us on to achieve the dream of owning a successful business.

All that said, I have been amazed at the passion and enthusiasm this past year has created. Without doubt Ted is the entrepreneur and his vision and drive is inspiring, infectious actually. My job, as I’ve discovered, is to “manage” this vision, without wanting to kill him in the process! And although it can sometimes feel as though we are channelling our inner Basil & Sybil Fawlty, it works. Just don’t ask me how.
