Driveway & Patio Cleaning

Driveway & Patio Cleaning

Bear Cleaning Ltd provides a professional driveway cleaning service. This is achieved through a high powered jet wash system to bring your driveway or patio back to its former glory.

The entire area will be power washed removing all loose and ground in dirt, grime and weeds.

Once dry, block paving will have kiln dried sand applied. The sand includes salt, which suppresses any weeds that may try resurface. The sand is  brushed back into the joints and bedded in.

A biocidal wash is then applied to remove any remaining lichen or algae. This ensures the cleaning process continues, long after we have left.

Helping you fall back in love with your space!

Frequently ask questions

Why should I consider pressure washing my driveway/patio?

Pressure washing removes built-up dirt, grime, oil stains, mould, mildew, and other debris, restoring the appearance of your driveway or patio, and improving kerb appeal.

It also helps prevent slippery surfaces and can extend the lifespan of your driveway or patio by removing damaging substances.

Is pressure washing suitable for all types of driveway/patio cleaning?

Pressure washing is suitable for all driveway surfaces, including concrete, asphalt, pavers, brick, stone and resin. Different pressures and techniques can be employed for the different surfaces to prevent any damage.

Some patio surfaces might benefit from soft washing rather than pressure washing, but our expert team can advise you on the best cleaning service for your patio when we visit.

Is pressure washing safe for my driveway and patio?

When performed correctly by a professional or with proper precautions taken, pressure washing is safe for driveways and certain patios.

However, excessive pressure or incorrect techniques can damage surfaces, so it’s important to use the right equipment and techniques.

Our expert team will be able to advise you on the best cleaning service for your driveway/patio.

How often should I pressure wash my driveway/patio?

The frequency of pressure washing depends on various factors such as weather, surrounding vegetation, and how much you use the area.

As a general rule of thumb, it’s recommended to pressure wash your driveway at least once a year to maintain its appearance and prevent deterioration.

We can also provide regular maintenance visits which negates the need to fully wash it again.

Can pressure washing clean oil stains from my driveway /patio?

Yes, pressure washing can effectively clean oil stains from driveways and patios. However, depending on the severity and age of the stain, multiple treatments or specialised cleaning solutions may be required for complete removal.

There is never 100% guarantee of the stain being removed in its entirety.

Will pressure washing damage the surrounding landscaping or property?

Our expert team will ensure that proper precautions are taken to protect surrounding landscaping and property. For example, this may include covering delicate plants, adjusting the pressure settings, and using appropriate techniques to prevent damage.

Can I pressure wash my driveway/patio myself or should I hire a professional?

While pressure washing can be done as a DIY project, hiring a professional is often recommended, especially for large driveways or tough stains. Professionals have the expertise, equipment, and safety measures necessary to achieve optimal results without causing damage.

Are there any environmental considerations when pressure washing my driveway/patio?

Yes, it’s important to consider environmental factors when pressure washing. Using eco-friendly cleaning solutions and properly disposing of wastewater are crucial for minimising environmental impact.

Additionally, avoiding excessive use of chemicals and conserving water during the process is recommended.

Will pressure washing my driveway/patio help prevent weed growth in cracks?

Pressure washing can help remove dirt and debris from driveway cracks, which may temporarily inhibit weed growth. However, for long-term prevention, it’s advisable to apply a sealant or filler to the cracks after pressure washing to prevent weeds from taking root.

We add our own additive to the sand which will greatly inhibit the chance of regrowth of weeds and is completely environmentally friendly

How long does it take to pressure wash a driveway/patio?

The time it takes to pressure wash a driveway varies depending on factors such as size, level of dirtiness, and the equipment used. On average, a standard driveway can be pressure washed in a few hours to a full day.

Do I need to replace the pointing after cleaning my driveway or patio?

Yes,repointing your patio, which involves filling in the gaps between the paving stones with fresh mortar or specialised jointing compounds, is essential for several reasons:

  • Prevent Weed Growth: Over time, the original mortar or jointing compound between the patio pavers can deteriorate, which allows weeds to grow between the cracks. Repointing will seal these gaps, minimising the opportunity for weeds to take root and preserving the look of your driveway or patio.
  • Enhance Stability: Loose or deteriorating joints can cause individual paving slabs to move or become uneven, compromising the stability and integrity of your driveway or patio surface. Repointing reinforces the connections between the paving slabs, ensuring they remain in place and reducing the risk of tripping hazards or structural damage.
  • Prevent Water Damage: Gaps between pavers can allow water to penetrate beneath the surface, this can lead to erosion of the underlying substrate or foundation, resulting in uneven settling, cracks, or even structural damage to the driveway or patio. Repointing creates a barrier against water infiltration, helping to maintain the structural integrity of the driveway or patio and prolong its lifespan.
  • Improve Appearance: The weather, erosion, and growth of weeds or moss can detract from the visual appeal of your driveway or patio. Repointing refreshes the surface by filling in gaps and restoring the clean, uniform look of your paving stones Additionally, you can choose mortar or jointing compounds in a range of colours that complement or enhance the appearance of your driveway or patio.
  • Prevent Movement: In locations with freeze-thaw cycles or heavy foot traffic, the constant expansion and contraction of the ground can cause individual paving stones to shift or become displaced. Properly repointing the joints helps to lock the pavers in place, preventing movement and maintaining a level surface.

Overall, repointing your driveway or patio is a proactive maintenance measure that preserves its structural integrity, prevents weed growth, improves appearance, and extends its lifespan, ensuring years of enjoyment and functionality.
